Gwen’s latest prize arrives

Gwen’s prize for winning First Place in the Microhorror.com Halloween Contest has arrived! As promised, she is modeling it here.

The front of the shirt:

Here is the back.

Gwen tells me that she expects never to see it again, now that she’s worn it once. She does know my fondness for black tees well…

Us at the Frankfort Book Fair

Here we are at the Frankfort Book Fair. Gwen on the left, Sarah on the right. It was a very large and well-attended event, and we did a brisk business with our anthologies.

Kentucky Book Fair Book Signing Tomorrow!

http://www.kybookfair.com/

Above is a link to the home page of the Kentucky Book Fair. Sarah and I will be there, with the Ohio River Valley Sisters in Crime, signing copies of Low Down and Derby. We are attending the authors' reception this evening at Buffalo Trace Distillery. We won't be indulging in much of their famous Bourbon though. The two of us agreed to take the early shift in our booth at the book fair.

It was nice of the organizers to allow us to bring a guest though. My kid sister, who has been responsible for a number of sales of our book, is going to accompany us this evening. I am hoping she has a wonderful time. I am sure I will.

"Color Comes in Snatches" wins Halloween contest!

Gwen's story was chosen as the winner of Microhorror.com's Halloween contest this year.

Her prize is a handy-dandy Microhorror T-shirt! Black, of course.

The story is at:

This one is scary. Really scary.

Flashshot Schedule Revisited

I had lots of nice emails following the publication of "Momma Keeps Her Word" on Aug. 29. Including one good friend that said it showed my true insanity. Wait until she sees the next one..."Always Wear Protection."

That's right folks, two more Flashshot stories are in the schedule for this year.

October 9, 2006: Always Wear Protection

November 20, 2006: Perfect Moments

If you are not signed up for the daily flashshot you might want to consider signing up at:

http://www.gwthomas.org/flashshotindex.htm

Of course, that won't give you any of the hundreds of Flashshot stories you have missed. For those you have to buy the books.

That Promised Picture!

Here it is... "Medusa on a Bad Hair Day", part of Gwen's prize award from Darker Intentions Press. We received her with a Certificate of Authenticity and a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble.

Readers familiar with the author will not be surprised that the gift certificate went towards the purchase of "Playin' With My Friends", the new Tony Bennett duets album.

If you think the picture looks too blurry, rest assured that this was the best of several photos. She just seems to photograph this way. Perhaps the legendary Medusa's power in iconic form affects cameras instead of people!

Flashshot Schedule

The fall schedule for Flashshot has been posted. Three of my drabbles appear in the rotation:

August 29, 2006: Momma Keeps Her Word

October 9, 2006: Always Wear Protection

November 20, 2006: Perfect Moments

"Screams," my first Flashshot story was #143 in Volume I. After not submitting anything to last year's volume of Flashshot I am looking forward to coming back with three stories in Volume III.

Humm...does this mean I need to get four accepted next year?

Constructive Criticism Places Third

THIRD PLACE WINNER:

Constructive Criticism by Gwen Mayo. A grim reminder of why one shouldn't tweak the local building inspector, particularly with those big construction guys running the job site. A great title for a great story.

The above quote is from the email I received from Anna Lascurain about my submission to the mystery contest "A Murder to Die For", sponsored by Darker Intentions Press, Freehold Township, NJ. It was a fun contest, and I am looking forward to seeing the prize arrive in the mail.
